Remember that pallet project I said I was going to do? Um, well, it didn't happen. I had seen the picture of the pallet coffee table and remembered that we had a pallet at the side of the house, left over from the delivery of our now-in-use shower doors. But what I failed to remember was the actual size of the pallet. I looked at it the other day after seeing the coffee table idea and it was clear that I could not use it in it's current length. Which is at least 6 feet. Which is too long for a coffee table. So, I will have my handy husband look at it and see if it's worth cutting down to an appropriate coffee table length. I was bummed, I was looking forward to this project!
Instead of working on the coffee table, the kids and I worked on t-shirts. I had seen this idea earlier in the week and thought the kids would have fun with it. All it took was a solid color t-shirt, a bleach pen (normally used for laundry purposes) and some imagination. Each kid drew out their ideas on paper first, then I helped put it on the shirt. Wa-lah, customized shirts! The kids had fun and all love their creations.
So this was our weekend project. No coffee table, but happy kids. I'll take it.
I got the shirts at Michael's (reasonably priced for our project). Mae really wanted the turquoise shirt but it was out of stock in the child sizes, so we an adult small instead. After the shirt was finished (after bleaching then washing/drying), I cut off the excess from the bottom and sleeves so it would not be too big for her. From the leftover material from the bottom I was able to use it to make a headband for Mae. She LOVES it! Great solution, I thought!
