Last weekend Mae experienced her first wedding. On the drive home we talked about it, and I wondered if this would be the beginning of her own dreams of what her wedding will be like. So I asked her questions about what she saw and what she thought. And tried to help her understand a little bit more of what took place. Then she asked me some questions in return, questions about my own wedding. Mae remembers watching the video of my wedding and she made a comment that, when I thought it through, made me hold my breath. It was one of those moments when you realize how quickly they really do grow and how much you want to resist it and demand that time slow down.
Mae: Why did Grandpa look younger at your wedding?
Me: Well, Mae, that was 13 years ago. Everybody looks younger when you look back. Just think of how young you will look when you look back on yourself now, in 13 years!
Mae: (silence, as she thinks about it)
Me: (silence, as I calcualte and realize that in 13 years my first born will be 21!!!!)
