A Bragger No More

We used to be able to baffle sales people that tried to sell us any form of extra tv (ie. Dish, cable, etc...). We used to. But not anymore. All because of a door-to-door salesmen. Really, who does that anymore? Well, AT&T does, they came by last week, and Ryan answered the door. Now we have broadband 'cable' (at least I think it's cable. whatever it is it gives us way more channels that we've ever had in our lives!).

I used to enjoy telling sales people that we had no form of cable and had no desire for one. It was a real conversation stopper (that and when Ryan was unemployed, telling sales-callers from mortgage companies that my husband was jobless....no one wanted to re-fi with us. shocking!). I also liked telling people (friends and acquaintances) the same thing. It was a prideful thing, I suppose. But I can no longer be so boastful.

We are now proud of being able to watch The History Channel and design shows on HGTV!

Why, you ask? Well, Ryan was totally prepared to tell the guy 'no thank you' when the he told Ryan that he could have internet access at airports with his laptop from work. Ryan does travel quite a bit, and being able to get on the internet while waiting to board the next flight must be an irresistible thing. We had talked about getting some kind of 'extra' tv so we could watch our favorite show (So You Think You Can Dance) but it was never enough to make us go out and subscribe. If the sales people only knew of Ryan's insatiable desire to connect while traveling, we would've been able to watch this last season of the show! Oh well, maybe next season. But for now I can enjoy the pleasures of design shows and who knows what else!

I'm asking for HGTV for Christmas!

p.s. How'd you get the "So.....what'd ya think???" line into your comment box?

I'm thrilled for you! We lived for many years without cable, too, but we only ever got basic. For Josh's last birthday he wanted tivo, so we looked into it and ended up going with DVR through the cable company. We never want to be without it again! We can watch our favorite shows whenever it's convenient for us and fast forward through all the commercials. We hate watching regular tv now and having to sit through commercials.

Amen to TIVO/DVR!!!! I have a friend that just got her first cell phone - she went through the same "depression" of not being the "last holdout". Welcome to this century - it's all downhill now!!!

I also "Amen" the DVR thing, I'm so addicted I sometimes expect to be able to rewind real life or save it to watch it again later. I know, that's weird. We had a 13" TV for the last nine years of our marriage. We were so proud of how we "suffered for Jesus" with that thing. We weren't sure how we were going to suffer for Him anymore when my folks bought us a 42" flat screen, and were kind of annoyed! Someone suggested we just pick another appliance to suffer with. We still don't get more than basic cable, so I guess we'll go with that since my appliances are fairly new. Congrats!

Oooohhh! How fun! We are still stuck in the stone ages at our house, or at least the rabbit ears age. Maybe someday....

I used to love using the line, "We just had twins AND we are completely broke AND I don't have time to spend on the phone." Ususally there was at least one baby crying in the background to prove my point!

oooooh, the slippery slope!!! We have the cable for internet by not for TV....yet......I do take a bit of pride in saying we don't have cable TV; we'll see when we finally break down and subscribe. Our internet cable provider does charge us an extra $7 a month because we don't have the cable TV too. That drives me nuts!!! They ran a promotion a few months back for "FREE cable TV" but when I called - "free" really meant $25 MORE a month for us. Argh!

Ooo! That does sound nice...

With Nathan out of town this week, I've been wishing for a little mom time in front of the TV...but alas, no cable. and my netflix movies are all kiddie ones right now....maybe I should take the plunge....
