Thier Quiver is Full - or - Three is Enough for Me

I read this article today. I'm in shock. The woman has now had 17 children. All her own. S-e-v-e-n-t-e-e-n!!! She has been pregnant 17 times, has given birth 17 times, has changed, I don't know, too many diapers and has probably been nursing for half her life. Someone, who is good with math, figured out that she has been pregnant ten and a half years combined. But the shock upon shock is that she wants more! I'm not exactly sure what to think about that. She's either an incredible woman to have that many children or has lost her sanity for said reason. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and go with incredible woman. That's my final answer.

I just read that article. I certainly know that I would have lost my sanity long before seventeen. There are times when I think I have lost my sanity after 3. I guess she must REALLY enjoy being pregnant....10 1/2 years, way more than I could handle. :)

I met someone who was a sibling in a family of twenty-two, all from the same Mom.

I'm inclined to think their sanity switches must have been messed with. Two has just about killed me, to be honest.

Think about sleep deprivation, Ladies. She hasn't slept in 19ish years. I don't think I could put together a coherent sentence; let alone just say "No, honey."

We have two babes, now 9 and 8, and the "baby years" about did us in because my two are only about 20 months apart...we call that time the "black years."

But....

I have good friends here who have 4, 5, 6 children and I do look at them with longing often. I love my kids so much and love being with kids overall (I am a certified elementary teacher). I think if my hubby was willing, I would have had more.....

My hubby was not willing after the 20-months apart time of our lives. =)

Deanne,

Where can we find the article?

Wowza! Can you imagine how much food is consumed in that house each and every day.... and the laundry.....

17 is the number of girls in our group at girls camp. they nearly did me in.

Ok, so I hadn't thought about the whole food budget thing, and 17 kids brings on a whole new meaning to 'the never ending laundry pile'!!! I wonder what the husband does for work, 'cause the mama home schools the kids so that means no working for that lady! Intriguing and scary all rolled up together!

I guess it was normal in the old days. Glad I didn't live then. My grandmother had 13. Mind you more of them died in those days. Now, death is more unlikely. Hopefully some of the 17 have left home and married, or are able to help with younger siblings.

My son and his wife have 7, and that blows my mind. But they surely do a great job, and each child is much loved.

I saw a special about this family on TLC. They had to buy a small bus so that they could all drive around together! And thier pantry was about as big as my condo!
