I don't have much in the cupboards or the fridge today and would like to see what I can do with what I have. Can you help a girl out?? I need some suggestions. Here is what I have to work with;
chicken
hamburger
can of corn
can of peas
can stewed tomatoes
frozen hash browns
can of peaches
misc pasta (linguine, and elbow noodles...I think)
jar of pasta sauce
onion
Use your imagination. Pretend that you're either on a reality show to be the Next Food Network Star -or- you only have a few dollars to your name and can't go out to buy any food today, and all you have to work with is what is listed above (and not everything has to be used, it's just all you have, plus the necessary spices). What would you serve?
Ok, ready, set, go!

Let's see...you could fry the hamburger and onion, add the corn, stewed tomatoes, and pasta. If you want to give it a Mexican flare you could add toco seasoning if you have any or for an Italian flare use the pasta sauce and some extra Italian seasoning. I would probably leave the corn out for the Italian and serve the peas on the side with the peaches. It would be good topped with cheese. I have never made either of these...but I remember my mom making something similar that we called skillet macaroni. Good luck!!
ooo - she stole my idea - we call it goulash. As for a recipe, good luck - Mike's is different every time, but the basic idea is hamburger and onion/garlic, tomatoes, corn, pasta and spices. i know he adds some vinegar and sugar, but you might find an actual recipe on allrecipes.com
good luck and post a picture with reviews!
How about Minestrone soup? That would use the hamburger, tomatoes, peas, corn, noodles and onion!
the peaches and pasta sauce got me a little sick feeling...
sorry I'm no help.
I love it!!! Goulash it is! Thanks guys, you're the bestest!!!
Amanda, um, sorry about the mix of ingredients...you'll feel better in a few weeks! :)
You could easily brown the pasta and make a meat sauce for spagetti but that's too easy.
I wonder if you could cook the chicken and cut it up to put in a caserole with peas, corn, chopped onion and make a white sauce (made from butter, milk and flour-assuming you have all that-its a basic recipe) to pour over it and then top it off with the hash browns. Cook it in the oven and there you go-it's almost a chicken pot pie!
I've heard of a website called recipematcher.com. You type in what you have in your pantry and it gives you recipes to try. Never used it, but it might be just what you need on a night like this.
I don't have dinner advice, except to say that if you brown the hamburger and add pasta sauce and let it simmer on low for a few minutes, that is good on pasta.
And cute new background! How'd you do that?
Hope dinner turned out well.... that was a good idea to get others to help you out with dinner.
I like the new look.
